What is a content pillar?
A content pillar is a repeating theme your brand posts about. Instead of asking "what should I post today?", you ask "which pillar is up next?" — a much smaller question. Most small brands do best with three or four pillars. Fewer and the feed gets repetitive; more and you stop posting any of them often enough to be recognised for it.
The four roles a good pillar set covers
- Show the work. Product, process, before-and-after, behind the scenes.
- Prove it works. Customer results, reviews, photos from real jobs.
- Teach something. A tip, a mistake to avoid, an explainer in your field.
- Show the people. Team, story, values, the day-to-day of running it.
If a pillar you are considering does not do one of those four things, it is probably a post idea rather than a pillar.

Turning pillars into a weekly plan
- Write your three or four pillars down and give each a one-line definition.
- Assign each pillar a slot in the week. Four pillars and four posts a week is one each.
- Tag your photo library by pillar so you always know what you have footage for.
- Batch: shoot or gather for one pillar at a time rather than one post at a time.
- After a month, look at what performed and give the winner an extra slot.
How to tell a pillar is not working
You keep skipping it. That usually means one of two things: you do not have the raw material to feed it (fix by planning a shoot for it), or it is not really about your customer (fix by replacing it). Rotating one pillar out per quarter is normal and healthy.
Doing it with Revel
In Revel your pillars live in your brand kit. Photos and clips get tagged to the pillar they fit, so when it is a pillar's turn on the calendar the studio suggests the media that matches and writes the caption in your brand voice.
